January 2011 - Shake-down for Alex's chambers

January's weather provided a robust field test for the slick chambers that Alex has built for our tile metabolism measurements. The good news is that we got some very nice data, despite low water temperatures and hardly any light! Alex is making some improvements to the stirrers before the start of actual measurements in March 2011.

January weather

We had some predictably bad weather on our first true winter sampling trip in January. Here's a shot of Jim Hood and Alex Huryn enjoying some of it. Also a photo of the same pair discussing the finer points of SF6 releases. We also had some help from the Hveragerdi rescue team on this trip - they followed us in on the last day. We got out on our own though!
